Barrichello blames bad luck

01 April 2006

Rubens Barrichello blamed bad luck for his disappointing qualifying result. The Brazilian qualified seventeenth with a time of 1m29.943s compared with team mate Button who finished on pole with a lap of 1m25.229s. Barrichello is under mounting pressure to turn his season around.

"With my team-mate in pole I can't complain about the car," Barrichello said. "I'm clearly disappointed because I'm much below my driving expectations here again in qualifying.

"When you look closely at today's session, I believe I can call my day bad luck," Barrichello added. "Maybe the rain came at just the wrong time and stopped us from setting a time at the right moment because as expected it was tough to warm up the tyres in these bad and cold weather conditions."

"Also I was unlucky because before that I had trouble with traffic," he added. "Possibly a team strategy problem: If we had left the garage one minute before…who knows? But its clear we had the same potential with my car than with Jenson's car to be in the top ten. Even if the car was much better today, if you run into traffic like I did, that's it."
