Hakkinen supports medals system

01 January 2009

Bernie Ecclestone is trying to introduce a medals system as early as next season. Formula 1 drivers would simply fight for a golden, silver or bronze medal rather than fighting for championship points.

Speaking to Austrian sports channel Laola1 Hakkinen said about the medals system: "I think the idea is very interesting. It is very simple: you can't be happy with fifth or sixth anymore so the drivers will start to take more risks and chase a podium finish. Everyone now wants to score a podium finish."
