Button going for it again

02 April 2009

After finally taking his second Formula 1 victory in Melbourne last weekend, Jenson Button is more determined that ever to suceed, and is looking to retain his championship lead in this weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix. His Brawn GP team made history on Sunday by taking an historic 1-2 result in their first Grand Prix, having also locked out the front row in qualifying.

Having travelled 4,000 miles to Malaysia, Round 1 is still fresh in the Englishman's mind: "It is only a week between races, so you are straight back into it," he explained. "I think Melbourne was a very special weekend for myself and for the whole team, but we very quickly had to look forward to the next chapter and look forward to the race this weekend."

Many F1 insiders, as well as fans, are highly tipping the BGP 001s to achive more success in Malaysia, despite the lack of running for the squad in testing. "Nobody yet knows how competitive we are compared to the rest of the field," the championship leader continued. "But I enjoy this circuit, I really do - it is a very fast, flowing circuit and I think it will suit our car pretty well."

As well as being described as 'fairy tale', the Brawn team have also been given an 'unbeatable' label after their first race although Button, with 156 races of Formula One experience behind him, remains realistic. "It's difficult to say that we're unbeatable after just one race," he added. "Red Bull were obviously quick, quicker than what we expected in Melbourne - I didn't think that they would be a team that would be up at the front. I also think that Ferrari will catch up, as they always do; those two teams are the ones, for me, that are going to be competitive going forward, and also BMW. It's a very strange mix with teams this year and it seems to be very close. We seem to have a slight advantage and then everyone else is very close and in the mix - it makes it exciting, and I think different people will stand out at this race."
