Brawn regrets not taking Button to Ferrari

07 April 2009

Ross Brawn has admitted that he should have looked more at Jenson Button as a possible Ferrari driver over the last few years. Brawn, as former technical director to the Italian team between 1997 and 2006, has watched Button compete in F1 since 2000 although admits that knowing the Englishman from the inside of a team is a different story to that of an onlooker.

Brawn, who has been impressed by the his driver's performances so far this year, admitted that Ferrari should have examined Button more carefully. "That might have been a mistake not to," Brawn said. "It's just so difficult to judge people, and Jenson is a pretty low-profile guy in many ways.

"He doesn't bang his own drum, and he gets on with things discreetly and quietly. It's a bit like his driving style, very smooth and very controlled, so I am very happy." Brawn, who worked with Michael Schumacher for all of the German's Ferrari years bar one, sees a different man in the car to the Button of last year. "He is working diligently with the engineers, and has been revitalized," Brawn added.
