'We haven't fixed our problems' - Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton is remaining realistic and admits that McLaren's issues - which have seen the World Champion miss the cut in the first of three phases of qualifying at the last three races - are still yet to be solved, despite setting the quickest lap time in second practice at the Nürburgring on Friday.

With the Mercedes-powered McLaren topping the timesheets at the engine manufacturer's home Grand Prix, Englishman Hamilton kept Sebastian Vettel's Red Bull off the top spot by just under two tenths of a second on the first day of running at the Nürburgring. "We haven't fixed our problems, not yet - we're working on it," Lewis admitted after a chilly day in Germany.

"We've got some small upgrades which are definitely taking us in the right direction but we still have a long way to go, the car is not perfect yet, but I think the guys at the factory have done a fantastic job." What are Lewis' targets for Saturday's qualifying session? "To try and get in the top ten," he revealed. "For us, that would be a big step - if we're able to challenge for the points every weekend, that would be a huge boost for us."
