The Hungaroring is a circuit of mixed memories for Fernando Alonso, the best of which was clinching his first Grand Prix victory for the Renault team in six years ago. After two practice sessions which threw up a number of surprises in the running order on Friday, the former double World Champion finished in twelfth position.

With the debut of Jaime Alguersuari being this weekend, Alonso is now one in a pair of Spanish drivers in the field. ""It was a fairly normal day of practice although it wasn't easy to cope with the constantly evolving track," admitted the Renault driver. "The morning was all about getting used to the car again and in the afternoon we concentrated on understanding the two different tyres, which gave us some useful information for the race.
"We managed to complete our programme and I think we can be happy with the job we have done today. For tomorrow morning we need to get ready for qualifying as grid position will be very important for the race." Team-mate Nelson Piquet wound up three places and less than two tenths of a second behind, in 15th spot.
