Red Bull echoes Williams' Ferrari sentiments

Red Bull echoes Williams' Ferrari sentiments

04 August 2009

The Red Bull organisation, representing Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso, has followed in the footsteps of Williams by declining Ferrari's request to run its F60 for Michael Schumacher ahead of the European Grand Prix. The Austrian company has reminded that the same permission was declined for Jaime Alguersuari.

With the 2009 championship seeing an introduction of an in-season testing ban, which allows no cars to be run on circuits other than on race weekend, Ferrari's request to run Schumacher at Mugello in the current car would require the permission of all other teams plus F1 governing body the FIA. Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz has agreed with Williams, however, stating that no allowances were made by Ferrari ahead of Jaime Alguersuari's debut in Hungary.

"We requested (permission from) the other Formula One teams to put Jaime Alguersuari in our car for a day to get himself prepared for the Hungarian Grand Prix, but it got rejected so why should we make an exception for the seven-time world Champion?" Mateschitz pondered. "We're happy with Jaime's debut race in Hungary - he did very well."
