Brawn hoping to secure runner-up spot

28 October 2009

Having picked up both the Drivers' and Constructors' world titles in Brazil last time out, Brawn GP Team Principal Ross Brawn now hopes to go one step further and ensure that Rubens Barrichello finishes second overall this weekend.

With Barrichello's pair of race wins and 72 points having made an invaluable contribution to Brawn's total of 161, the Brazilian is now required to finish at least sixth in order to retake second overall from Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel, who lies just two points ahead with only the season finale remaining.

"Brazil was a fantastic weekend and to have won the Constructors' and Drivers' Championships with Brawn GP is a very special achievement," Brawn commented, having succeeded for the first team with a team carrying his own name. "I am incredibly proud of the whole team at Brawn GP and Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines; we've all had a few busy days since returning to the UK and it was great for both Jenson and I to get back to the factory and thank everyone in person for their contribution to our successes.

"At the same time, we have been looking ahead to the final race and ensuring that all our preparations are in place for Abu Dhabi, which is an important weekend for the team as we look to secure second position in the Drivers' Championship with Rubens."

With no previous data of the brand-new desert track on Yas Island, Brawn explained that the team is able to create a circuit map by using data provided by Formula One governing body the FIA. "We can also use the simulator to understand tyre behaviour," Ross added. "From this we get an understanding of the car balance and that allows us to determine our start setup for the weekend."
