Kubica crashes out of Sicilian Rally

Robert Kubica's first motorsport appearance for Renault did not end as he would have hoped when crashing out of the Taormina-Messina rally at the weekend. The Pole, who was driving a DP Motorsports-prepared Renault Clio R3, was leading his class before the incident took place.

With the 3-day event having begun on Friday, Kubica found himself eighth overall and leading in class as the first day came to an end. The Kraków man's rally came to an end, though, when - lying half a second ahead of Paul Wise - he struck a wall on the right-front during SS3 on Saturday.

"I enjoyed the testing and the people have been very welcoming," Robert said before the crash on Saturday. "I didn't attack yesterday, I was trying to learn about driving the car - today is a longer challenge; the only unknowns are the pace notes, so I hope I get used to driving in this way. I must learn to listen."
