Canadian news reports are claiming that its race has been confirmed as returning to the Formula 1 calendar for next year after a season off in 2009. The Grand Prix in Montreal is currently pencilled into the FIA race schedule although it now seems as though a 5-year deal has been struck between race organisers and F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone.
With the government-backed event having needed to complete negotiations with Ecclestone, of Formula One Management (FOM), La Presse reports that, not only is the 2010 race confirmed for June 13, but that the sport will be returning to Canada for at least for the next five seasons.

After race organisers from the Executive Committee of the City of Montreal met with Ecclestone, funding for the event has been divided between several parties - the Canadian national government will contribute C$5m (£2.8m), the province of Quebec C$4m (£2.9m) and Montreal city a further C$1m (£600,000), with the tourism board of Montreal adding the remaining C$5m (£2.8m).
Official confirmation for the return of the race is expected in due course.
