Formula One will probably revert to a new qualifying format in July. Team bosses met in Nurburg and agreed 'in principle' to scrapping the current single-lap system 'by Silverstone or Indianapolis' because it's too tedious.
A 60-minute format, split into two 20-minute sessions with a 20-minute break in between - on low fuel and times decided by aggregate - should debut in Britain.
''[But] it's subject to everybody agreeing,'' cautioned Jaguar's Tony Purnell.
Apparently, Ferrari's Jean Todt vetoed a plan to have the final session run with race-fuel because fuel-saving in-lappers would have been dangerous obstacles.
The system must be ratified by the FIA's World Motor Sport Council on June 30.
