Barrichello: F1 shouldn't be slowed down

27 August 2004

Formula One shouldn't slow down if it means the sport loses its mantle as the 'pinnacle of technology.' That's the claim of Ferrari driver Rubens Barrichello. He knows FIA president Max Mosley is vehement speeds must be reduce for safety's sake but they should also protect F1's image.

Rubens said: "It's difficult to stop progress. Even looking at the Olympics, every games appear more lavish. I agree we need to look at safety and costs, but we must also make sure F1 continues to be the ultimate level of racing."

Rubens has driven the fabled Spa-Francorchamps layout in Formula 3, Formula 3000 and Formula Opel, "and I got pole here in '94. Whenever you like something you do well at it," he said. "I really like Spa."
