Verstappen set to test Jordan

20 April 2004

Last chance for Verstappen?
Last chance for Verstappen?

Jos Verstappen is set to make his F1 comeback sooner than expected according to F1Racing.net sources in the Netherlands. After meetings between Eddie Jordan and sponsor Trust, it is emerging that Verstappen could replace Giorgio Pantano as soon as the Spanish Grand Prix in just under three weeks' time.

When asked about the possibility of Verstappen joining the team Jordan's spokeswoman told F1Racing.net that the team's drivers for 2004 were 'fixed' and that test driver Timo Glock was scheduled to complete the team's next test at Vairano, Italy from April 27-29. She also admitted that Jordan had been in talks with Trust.

Verstappen is known not to be keen to go to a race without having at least driven the car before and while Jordan only confirm Timo Glock for next week's test, Verstappen looks set to join him. Whether Verstappen competes in Spain is likely to depend on how comfortable he feels in the car after that test, and thereafter final negotiations about a race seat are set to take place.

Verstappen missed his opportunity to join Jordan from the start of the season when his manager Huub Rothengatter was blamed for demanding extortionate fees and commission for brokering the sponsorship deal with Trust. Since then Verstappen and Trust have buried the hatchet with negotiations now just between Verstappen, his other manager Raymond Vermeulen, Trust, and Jordan.

Furthermore young Dutch DTM driver Christijan Albers is understood to be in line for a test with the Jordan team later this season, courtesy of his and Jordan's sponsor Trust and he is counting on being able to secure a race seat with the team for 2005.

The coming days are set to be revealing...
