Jordan rules out Verstappen comeback

24 April 2004

Jordan Formula One team chief Eddie Jordan has ruled out Dutchman Jos "the boss" Verstappen making a comeback with the team this season despite having officially signed a sponsorship deal with Verstappen's principal backer Trust.

Jordan told reporters at Imola that he would do what he could to help Verstappen secure a drive somewhere in the pit lane should the opportunity arise, but that his own driver line up of Heidfeld and Pantano was set for this season.

Jordan's spokeswoman told F1Racing.net earlier this week that, 'our driver line up for this season is fixed and not changing.'

Jordan himself told reporters at Imola, "We tried very hard to put something together with Jos before the season but for a number of reasons it didn't happen. I have chosen the drivers I have - that's what the contracts say and that's what we will continue with."

Jordan hinted that it was not all doom and gloom for Verstappen and his army of loyal supporters. "There could be a testing agreement with somebody, there could be a big team which needs a driver - if we can help him in any way we will do," Jordan added cryptically.

"Jos is a good driver and I've known him for a very long time. I will help him any way I can," Jordan concluded.
