Former F1 driver Bertrand Gachot does not believe Ayrton Senna made a driving error that, ten years ago, killed the Brazilian at the Imola track in Italy. The Belgian was racing a Pacific-Ilmor on what he calls a 'terrible' weekend. 'Tamburello was easily flat in the dry,' said Gachot. 'It would have been impossible to crash without mechanical failure.'
Bertrand recalls Senna, the great Brazilian, as a person with 'human qualities. 'When I was in jail in Britain,' he continues, 'Ayrton wrote a letter to the judge. Amazing - it was so nice and well written. It really touched me.'
Gachot said all the Formula One racers at Imola were told Senna had only broken his leg. 'They said he was going to be ok,' Bertrand added. 'It was only when I got to the airport that I was told he was dead. I looked at his jet and thought of this great and exciting life that ended too early.'
