Threat to axe Brit GP is real - Stewart

Sir Jackie Stewart believes Britain can not count on a Formula One future without a partnership between the government, the BRDC, and Bernie Ecclestone. The Scot, president of the Silverstone-owning Club, reckons every F1-nation except America pledges cash-support towards making their track world class. 'We're asking our government for a fair and level playing field,' he said.
Stewart warned critics not to doubt Ecclestone's threat to cancel the race, after the Briton called Silverstone an 'old house' in dire need of renovation. 'You've got to understand the financial might of new venues,' said Stewart, no doubt trembling at the possible future race additions of Turkey and India.
He added: 'The UK will lose out if we do not get our act together.'
