Jaguar's North American headache
16 June 2004Jaguar has a headache it hadn't bargained for. Drivers Christian Klien and Mark Webber collided at the start of the Montreal race which fell just four days prior to opening practice at Indianapolis (USA).
"It was very frustrating," said head of car performance Dr Mark Gillan. "The reasons for the incident were outside of our control."
Many car parts damaged in the shunt had to be returned to the Milton-Keynes factory (in England) for repair and tests and then flown back to North America. "Montreal was not where we should have been," said a disappointed Mark Webber.
The Australian is allowed to leave in '05 if the team can't earn sixth in the title by the end of the United States Grand Prix - an almost impossible task.
