BRDC: Ecclestone never gave us a deadline

A dark cloud has descended over Silverstone. "It's sad," said the circuit-owning BRDC's president and former triple world champion Sir Jackie Stewart, who was looking-forward to Britain's Grand Prix.
F1 impresario Bernie Ecclestone issued a statement on Wednesday clarifying that no agreement with a promoter is in place to stage a Silverstone race beyond '04.
He also imposed a deadline for a new deal of 30 September. "His deadline," said Stewart, "has never been mentioned [to us]. We're surprised at [the withdrawal of] assurances of the security of the '05/'06 grands prix. We should be celebrating Britain's motor sport industry."
