Note to Jackie Stewart - don't wear a kilt this Sunday. ''If he does,'' said an acid-tongued F1 impresario Bernie Ecclestone at Silverstone International on Friday, ''I'll wrap it around his neck.''
BRDC president Stewart claims Bernie 'backtracked' on assurances on the future of the British GP beyond '04. ''He'd better be careful,'' said Ecclestone.
''I don't backtrack. That's how I run a successful business.''
Bernie said he's only stating a fact when he says the old World War II airfield in rural Northamptonshire ''needs a promoter. They don't have one.''
Sir Jackie claims he's never heard about a deadline of 30 September. But Ecclestone said the BRDC is lucky he'll wait even that long. ''Ordinarily I would have proposed ... a calendar of races [for '05 to the FIA] by June. So to help the BRDC I asked [the FIA] to wait until October.''
Bernie also thinks Stewart should keep his nose out of the London GP. ''If it were to happen,'' he said, ''[they] would not need ... advice from Sir Jackie.''
