McLaren could use prize technical director and aerodynamics genius Adrian Newey next season according to latest reports. Newey is said to be considering his options and might take a break from F1.

"My contract with McLaren runs to 21 July next year so I will be technical director until then and after that we'll have to see," Newey told BBC Sport. "I haven't made any decisions to be perfectly honest. At the moment, I'm mainly focused on next year's car and working through that - then at some point next spring I'll think about life after that."

Newey, 45 designed pretty much all of the F1 championship winning cars of the 1990s. He is speculated to be considering taking a sabbatical to pursue other interests such as his desire to design a yacht for the America's Cup.

Newey did try to leave McLaren before - for Jaguar - but was talked around by team boss Ron Dennis, who will be reluctant to lose the star as it looks McLaren may be coming good again.
