BAR's British GP update is ready for Germany
20 July 2004A spokesman has revealed Brackley-based BAR-Honda will debut in Germany an aerodynamic package it retracted after Friday practice for the British GP. The sport has now descended into a six-week summer ban on all track testing so ''we're trying to get as many bits on the car as possible,'' Geoff Willis said.
But the technical director pulled the package when Jenson Button could only go fifth quickest with it at Silverstone despite new tyres and a light fuel-load. It was withheld and then run again during last week's test at Jerez (Spain).
''We wanted to introduce [the new parts] earlier,'' Willis confirmed. "But we didn't feel we had fully tested them."
A team spokesman told this publication that Honda V10 engine and chassis developments are ready for Hockenheim to 'improve [the] speed and reliability.' He hinted BAR now faces 'increased competition' from Renault and McLaren.
Honda's Shuhei Nakamoto also said the 'next step' will debut in Germany. ''We expect it to give us a performance improvement,'' said the engineering director.
