Berger as Mosley's FIA deputy?

11 August 2004

Former GP winner and ex-joint BMW motor sport director Gerhard Berger is first on Max Mosley's list to become a key assistant to the FIA president from 2006. Britain's 'F1 Racing' magazine said the Austrian, who won 10 Grand Prix' in a thirteen season race career, is Mosley's favourite to be one of two 'aides.'

Max wanted to quit at the end of this season, but 'pressure from all sides' of the Paris-based federation insist it would damage the FIA if he left before '05.

And he said re-election would involve him being part of a team of 'three people. "One doing the sport," added Mosley, "and one not nearly so much."

But Berger said in June, asked if he is about to take Jean Todt's reigns at Ferrari, that 'I am enjoying my break and I cannot predict when I'll come back.'
