Williams eyes Newey
15 August 2004Williams has its eye on former chief designer Adrian Newey. The lauded Briton, lured from Sir Frank's ranks to McLaren in the late nineties, is out of contract next season and has made noises about needing a change. "We'd certainly have a look," Williams told the BBC.
McLaren's 'F1 CEO' Martin Whitmarsh admitted he could not predict Newey's intention but claimed he hasn't given 'the impression' he is at all unhappy. "Do I believe he is going to go? No, I don't believe he would."
Whitmarsh did, however, concede reports of technical director Adrian needing 'some time out' or a lesser role in the design team may not be out of touch. "He may do," he told the British broadcaster.
