Jaguar Racing boss Tony Purnell has spoken out about a different idea for how Formula One can spice up the qualifying process during a Grand Prix weekend. Purnell would like to see some 'mini races' on Fridays and Saturdays which would contribute to the grid for Sunday's main race.

"My own personal idea is to have mini-races on Fridays and Saturdays to entertain people," Purnell told Motorsport News. "They would count towards the grid but add a little more uncertainty to Sunday's race. The system would still very much ensure that the best racing driver won the title at the end of the year - and that would still be Michael Schumacher whatever qualifying system was dreamed up. But I would still like to see something radical."

"F1 is too democratic," Purnell added of the F1 decision making process. "Committees never decide anything. What we really want is a benevolent dictator - somebody we vote in every three years. That's how practical democracies work."
