Jaguar works on tyre wear issue
25 August 2004Jaguar hopes it has solved a 'tyre issue' that left both drivers moaning and Mark Webber ruing a spin at the Hungaroring. Head of car performance Dr Mark Gillan claims the Milton-Keynes based team 'learnt a lot' from a difficult race near Budapest. "We'll take that knowledge about tyre-management," he said on Tuesday, "with us to Spa in the hope of scoring some points."
Sources say the problem is excessive rear-tyre wear. Webber's pace diminished so rapidly ahead of a pit stop in Hungary that he spun, thus spoiling a duel with David Coulthard.
Team-mate Christian Klien also said the R5's balance was poor. "It was difficult entering the corners," said the Austrian.
Meanwhile, F1 team Renault has announced it will race around a 1.3km street circuit in the centre of Lyon (France) next month. "Previous street events," team president Patrick Faure said, "show that Formula One needs to get closer to its public."
On the same September day, German F1 commentator Christian Danner will be a guest at a Minardi two-seater event in Switzerland.
