Mika's move was 'impressive' - Zonta

25 August 2004

The last time Ricardo Zonta raced Belgium's famous Spa circuit, two world champions waged war to his left and right. Mika Hakkinen's move on Michael Schumacher in the 2000 Grand Prix is still remembered as one of the boldest in modern F1 history. "I think it was very impressive," said Zonta, who this weekend returns to the track in the Ardennes as Toyota's new race driver.

Schumacher, ready to lap Ricardo's BAR-Honda, was on Zonta's left, and the Brazilian did not even see Hakkinen's McLaren. "Mika came up my right - it was a little surprising!"

Hakkinen, linked with a possible return to F1 next season, was fuelled to the gills and claims the move was a 'big decision. "It was a risk," said the Finn, now 35. "I remember screaming in my helmet after I did it, going into the next corner, saying 'ok, ok, calm down now -- you did it!"
