Alonso targets Renault one-two at first corner
28 August 2004 / Results / PhotosFernando Alonso is aiming for Renault to be first and second at the first corner of tomorrow's Belgian Grand Prix after he qualified third and team mate Trulli qualified on pole for the race at Spa Francorchamps.
"It will be very interesting tomorrow," Alonso said. "We know we usually start very good and we have the chance to be first and second in the first corner which will be very good for the team.
"We had a difficult day today with no practice and then this qualifying which was difficult," he added. "To be in the top three is a fantastic result for me today and I think for tomorrow we have a good and competitive car in all conditions so I'm happy."
Renault struck a masterstroke decision to switch to intermediate tyres which proved perfect for the moment when their two drivers were out on track.
