Schumi wanted to take championship with win
29 August 2004 / Results / PhotosMichael Schumacher has admitted that he really wanted to win his seventh world drivers' championship with victory at the Spa circuit. Although the German dropped down to fifth place in the early stages of the race, Schumacher managed to finish second, despite not overtaking anyone on track.
"It was an eventful day with all the safety cars," said the seven times world champion who claimed the title in Ferrari's 700th Grand Prix. "It was a tough race and considering where I dropped back to and now finished I think I should be happy. We clinched the race and had a good race and also secured the championship."
"I would honestly have rather finished the championship with a victory but today we weren't quite strong enough," he added. "We've had such a good season so far and we knew someone would beat us eventually and today Kimi won."
