As testing kicked off yesterday at Jerez in southern Spain the unfamiliar face of Olivier Beretta was behind the wheel of a BMW WilliamsF1 car. Beretta was drafted in at the last moment to replace Antonio Pizzonia after the Brazilian suffered a a minor accident in China.

Doctors have told Pizzonia to rest all week and ruled him out of the three-day test at Jerez after he injured his ankle when he slipped on the stairs in his hotel in China over the weekend.

Olivier Beretta drove for the French Larrousse team in 1994 and has tested intermittently for the BMW WilliamsF1 Team since 2002. On Tuesday he was drafted in to partner regular test driver Marc Gené. Olivier concentrated on testing different cooling configurations. He completed 87 laps, setting a best time of 1:18.982 minutes.

"Olivier Beretta ran the second FW26, replacing Antonio Pizzonia who has been sidelined due to an ankle injury sustained while in China," explained WilliamsF1 test team manager Tim Newtno. "Despite coming in at extremely late notice, Olivier did a very good job, completing 87 laps of various aero measurements and traction control work."

Ralf Schumacher has taken over from Beretta today.
