McNish - Why not quit F1, Coulthard?

29 September 2004

David Coulthard may decide to quit Formula One and race in another category next season, compatriot and former grand prix star Allan McNish said. The Scot reckons Ford and Jaguar's 2005 withdrawal may compel veteran Coulthard, who was considering a stint at Milton-Keynes, to 'win' elsewhere.

McNish told Scottish newspaper 'The Scotsman' in Glasgow: "Does (Coulthard) want to be sixteenth or seventeenth just for the sake of having a seat in Formula One?"

Allan raced for Toyota in 2002 and became Renault's F1 test driver last season. But, in 2004, McNish joined Audi for the European Le Mans series. "I race to win," he continued, "and I prefer to be in something else with a chance of winning than Formula One with no chance of winning."
