Silverstone 'not worst F1 track'
04 October 2004Silverstone does not have the worst facilities on the Formula One calendar, 1995 British GP winner Johnny Herbert said in defence of the axed race. The 40-year-old, who these days races a Le Mans sports car, notes recent improvements to the Northamptonshire circuit, such as a new access road system. "You can't compare Silverstone to Bahrain or China," Herbert said. "Silverstone has been there for over 50 years."
Herbert, born in Romford (England), said a more fair comparison is between Silverstone and Italy's historic grand prix venue, Monza. "Silverstone doesn't look bad," he said of that comparison. The roads around Monza are much busier. I went to Silverstone this year and it was a breeze to drive to."
