Ford 'might have stayed'

02 November 2004

US carmaker Ford and team Jaguar might have stayed in Formula One if Max Mosley's regulations had been enforced a couple of seasons earlier. That is the FIA president's latest claim.

He said the restrictive aerodynamic, tyre and engine package for 2005 is also designed, foremost, to 'reduce the performance' of the presently too-fast grand prix challenger.

Mosley also denied that other disgruntled manufacturers, such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Honda, may quit F1 because of the introduction of a V8 formula in 2006. "The danger of losing manufacturers because they are not getting enough in relation to the expenditure (is greater)," he said.
