Axed Formula One racer Cristiano da Matta has a 'good chance' of returning to the US-based Champ Car grid in 2005 in a third Newman-Haas entry. The former Toyota-driving Brazilian visited the Champ Car paddock in Mexico City with agent Fernando de Paiva on the weekend.
"It depends on sponsorship," Cristiano was reported as telling Autosport magazine. 31-year-old Da Matta won the CART championship with Carl Haas' team in 2002.
