Richards backs BAR to challenge Ferrari for title

Outgoing BAR Honda team principal David Richards is backing the team to fight Ferrari down to the wire for the 2005 championship, despite news that he is no longer team chief and will only have an advisory role with the team until he leaves completely in February. The news came as Honda announced a 45% acquisition of the team.

"Despite everyone expecting Ferrari to be extremely strong next year, there is every chance BAR can challenge them right the way down the line next year," Richards said. "

"The arrival of Honda and their investment clearly is a very solid and positive sign for the team," he added. "With Honda's commitment to the team - a wind tunnel starts building here on Monday - and other investment from them in the long term, it means everyone here now has total security of their jobs with the Formula One team going forward."
