Despite being ousted from his role as team principal by Honda's acquisition of 45% of the BAR team, David Richards is still hopeful that Jenson Button will stay with the team beyond 2005. Button had tried to move to BMW WilliamsF1 for next season, but Richards hopes that Honda's investment in the team could sway Button to stay put.
"I'm sure when Jenson sees the performance of the car and team he'll see there are great foundations here," Richards said. "But I don't expect he'll make that decision in the short term - he'll wait to see how next season pans out."
Richards guided BAR to second place in the constructors championship this season and also prevented rivals BMW WilliamsF1 snatching Button away from the team.
"The car will be extremely competitive next year," added Richards, the man who came into BAR and turned things around. "Honda have done a great job on the new engine and the chassis is lokoing really good. I think that elusive win is just around the corner."
