Red Bull to have F1 'edge'
01 January 2005Red Bull will approach Formula One with 'a bit of an edge,' according to former Jaguar Racing principal Tony Purnell. The Englishman, to maintain the role under the ownership of the fizzy energy drink brand, notes that Dietrich Mateschitz's is the only 'marketing company' involved at the pinnacle of motor sport.
"There are six manufacturers on the grid," he noted, "but Red Bull is a marketing company -- the presentation of the team will therefore be handled differently."
It might, he cheekily suggested, explain why Salzburg (Austria) is keeping a lid on the identity of David Coulthard's 2005 teammate. Asked about one of the hottest topics in New Year F1, Purnell smiled: "When we are ready, we will make an announcement."
