Richards becomes CBE

David Richards has become a CBE for his services to motor sport. The former BAR team boss has been recognised in the Queen's 2004 New Year Honours. 

Richards founded Prodrive in 1984 and has built the organisation into the world's larges independent motorsport company. Prodrive has won six world rally championship titles and five British touring car championships.

Last year Richards and Prodrive's involvement with the BAR Formula One team helped boost the outfit up to second in the constructors championship. 

Prodrive employs almost 900 people and has an annual turnover of over £100million.
