Monza D-Day for Button team switch
25 February 2005Jenson Button will only be able to rejoin the BMW WilliamsF1 team in 2006 if BAR Honda fails to achieve certain performance criteria by the italian Grand Prix in September, it has emerged. Williams had tried to lure Button from BAR last season but failed. The team was however hopeful at the time and all observers believed the British driver would almost certainly make his way to Grove in 2006.
When asked whether Button would drive for Williams in 2006 WilliamsF1 team boss Frank Williams said, "That's not directly under our control but BAR's. Jenson has to score a certain percentage of points compared with the championship leader. If BAR does not attain the necessary position compared with the championship leader by the last day of August then that option automatically comes our way."
Autosport claims that BAR needs to score 75 per cent of the points of the world championship leader by the last day of August 2005.
