Zonta fastest in first practice, F2005 shows potential
01 April 2005Toyota's reserve driver Ricardo Zonta set the fastest lap time of the day. But all eyes were not on Zonta. Everyone kept a close eye on how the F2005 would perform on its Grand Prix debut. Michael Schumacher completed only 5 laps but set a second fastest lap time.
The afternoon is warm in Bahrain. With 36 degrees it is as warm as in Malaysia, but because the humidity is not 35 to 40% but (only) 21% the circumstances to drive the car on the Sakhir-track are easier.
The Renault and Toyota team completed only an installation lap in first practice. Probably to save their engine and tyres. Sato also didn't complete a timed lap. The only driver having problems today had to be the one making his F1 Grand Prix return: Alexander Wurz. The Austrian went out in the early stages of the session and suffered an engine failure.
