1998 and 1999 F1 champion Mika Hakkinen has written a letter to the 'SA (South Australia) motorsport board.' In it, the so-nicknamed 'Flying Finn' congratulated the city as it marked twenty years since Bernie Ecclestone's circus was wooed Down Under.

In 1995, the last year before the street race moved to Melbourne, Mika - now 36 - nearly died in Adelaide after a huge shunt.

Hakkinen, in the letter, singled out the late Dr. Paul Temme, a key member of the medical team that saved his life. "Please pass on my best wishes," he wrote in the letter addressed to V8 event 'Clipsal 500' CEO Andrew Daniels.
