Column: Not much to say about the crash

06 May 2005

A lot has happened in the two weeks between the Grand Prix at Imola and the race in Spain. The Minardi team planned a two-day test at Mugello where we joined the Ferrari and BAR team at the Italian track. Everyone knows what happened on our first day, I crashed into Nissany. Since the crash many journalists have asked me what happened but there isn't much to say about the whole situation to be honest. Nissany went around the track really slow and when I was going to overtake him he went to the right of the track all of a sudden so I didn't have a chance to avoid a crash with him.

After our two-day test I visited the Minardi factory in Faenza for a debriefing. We checked out all the data that we gathered during our test at Mugello. Those kind of debriefings are pretty boring because there is so much data to go through, but it's a very important part of the job I have. During the debriefing I try to explain the engineers as good as I can how the car feels, what he does at the track and the engineers will try to use my feedback to improve the car. A debriefing like that takes me about three hours.

Apart from the test at Mugello I didn't do much exciting really. It was the usual workout in the gym with my personal trainer Armand Caenen and on Thursday morning I will fly to Spain to attend the Spanish Grand Prix. Hopefully we are able to close the cap with the rest of the field a bit more.
