Paul Ricard Day 2: Toyotas set the pace

12 May 2005 / Results

Toyota set the pace on the second day of testing this week at Paul Ricard in southern France. Former race driver Olivier Panis racked up 112 laps - his best in 1m04.877s - 0.3s ahead of fellow Toyota test driver Ricardo Zonta.

The five teams present continued to work in preparation for the Monaco Grand Prix, using the Paul Ricard circuit in a configuration simulating the twisty Monaco streets. Tomorrow the circuit format will change as team's test for the Canadian Grand Prix. It was a sunny but windy day with air temperature reaching 24 degrees Centigrade.

Kimi Raikkonen was third fastest, just 0.015s behind Zonta's Toyota while McLaren Mercedes team mate Montoya was seventh fastest.

Renault tested with Heikki Kovalainen and Franck Montagny and completed the greatest mileage of any team today with 328 laps.

Red Bull was in action with Coulthard and Luizzi managing 250 laps between them for the day's sixth and eighth fastest times while Sauber's Jacques Villeneuve was ninth fastest.
