Hakkinen back to winning ways

15 May 2005

Mika Hakkinen is back to winning ways after claiming victory in the DTM race this afternoon at Spa-Francorchamps. The double F1 world champion took his maiden victory in the DTM series in only his third race.

Hakkinen started the race from pole but was beaten into the first corner by Mattias Ekstrom. Ekstrom pulled out a lead but at the first pit stops Hakkinen reeled him in and after a swift trip to the pits the Flying Finn emerged in the lead and never looked back.

Hakkinen won at Spa once in his F1 career - in 2000. Other ex-F1 drivers were also in action: Jean Alesi finished fourth, Frentzen fifteenth and Allan McNish retired three laps from the end.
