Column: Looking ahead of Monaco

18 May 2005

I arrived in Monaco on Tuesday already for the most prestigious race this season. Monaco is really something special. Free practice is always held on Thursday instead of Friday so I'll be in the paddock on Wednesday already for some interviews.

On Friday we won't be out on track, but that doesn't mean I can sit back and relax unfortunately. We will be talking with the team about all the data that we gathered during Thursday's free practice sessions. If there is some time left on Friday I can relax a bit or enjoy the harbour of Monaco.

I won't be going flat out right away at this track. The slightest mistake can ruin our car completely so I will be building up the speed from Thursday to Sunday. Then again I cannot take it easy too much because we have get the right set-up for the car. As I said, it's interesting race!

We still miss some 'drag' in the car so hopefully we can find some extra speed this weekend again. After the free practice sessions the FIA allows everyone to practice starts, which will be very useful for our team after our start problems in Barcelona.

The most important goal we have for the race is to finish the race and bring the car home in one piece.
