Jordan to announce engine deal at Indianapolis

14 June 2005

It is very likely that the Midland will announce they will be using Mercedes engines in their F1 cars next season. Rumours were going round for a while but Jordan-Midland Team Manager Colin Kolles told F1Racing.net exclusively: "We will make an announcement at Indianapolis about the 2006 engine."

The Midland group bought the Jordan team at the start of this season and will rename the team to 'Midland F1' next season. The current year is seen as a start-up year, but for next season the team would need to get the results.

Whether or not the Midland team will remain their Toyota engines will be answered soon. At Indianapolis the Jordan-Midland team will announce their 2006 engine partner. Rumours strongly suggest it will be Mercedes but Kolles insisted: "We are very happy with our current engine supplier (Toyota). I can confirm that we will announce our engine partner for 2006 at Indianapolis."

The Silly season got underway early this season. Alexander Wurz has been mentioned as a possible driver (because of the Mercedes link) but also Christijan Albers is on the 'most wanted' list after his strong performance in Canada. "Christijan could also be an option for next season," Kolles confirmed.
