Sauber: JV will stay
14 June 2005Peter Sauber has moved to cool raging speculation that he may soon dump Jacques Villeneuve. The Swiss team principal, 61, said Villeneuve - the 1997 world champion who so failed to shine in a Hinwil built car - has a two year contract.
"The driver question is, I think, not a valid one," Sauber said. "We have a contract with Jacques and, from my perspective and that of the team, we exert every effort to honour it."
Sauber also panned a journalist for releasing the attention-grabbing 'too slow' interview in Montreal even though it was conducted at Monaco.
He said the local Canadian press then 'absorbed' the driver scandal 'like a dry sponge.' Sauber said: "I was really pleased with Jacques' splendid effort in qualifying. But I'm unhappy that our team members will inevitably read some of the things he said."
