Column: Getting ready at Indy

17 June 2005

The Canadian Grand Prix was really great. There was an enormous crowd there which was fantastic to see. The weekend in Montreal was probably my best Formula 1 weekend thus far. Qualifying went really well and I finished the race in eleventh which was my best finish thus far.

I didn't go back to Europe after the Canadian Grand Prix but stayed in Montreal for a few days with my girlfriend to look around. Montreal is really a great city that I enjoyed.

On Wednesday I arrived in Indianapolis and went jogging at the track. The track is enormous compared to European tracks. The track didn't look really fun to be honest because it was so big and empty, but when it will fill up this weekend I am sure the atmosphere will be great. The track is smaller than I expected. On TV it looks pretty wide, but when I was jogging at the track I realized it wasn't that wide at all.

Today, Thursday, I will walk the track with my engineers like we always do. We will talk most of the day about the set-up of the car and going through various data of the car. On Friday I will get at the track early to prepare myself.

This weekend I will be using the same engine as I used in Montreal. Hopefully we can do well here. Last year Baumgartner scored one point for the Minardi team which was a fantastic result for him and the Minardi team. I don't think it will be easy to achieve the same thing here. There aren't that many cars anymore that fail to finish so we can get close to the points, but then again… you never know so I will keep pushing the car as much as I can!
