Stoddart slams Mosley and Todt

23 June 2005

Paul Stoddart has again called for FIA president Max Mosley to quit after the US Grand Prix shambles, the blame for which the Australian puts at the feet of the FIA boss.

"There's no question in my mind that the farce that occurred at Indianapolis was the responsibility of the FIA president, Max Mosley, and compounded by the lack of support from Jean Todt," Stoddart said in a fresh statement issued to the press.

"Mosley refused to accept any of the solutions offered and that refusal was, I believe, politically motivated," Stoddart added. "I feel he failed in his duty and that is why I have called for his resignation."

Stoddart gave a lengthy personal account of what happened over the US Grand Prix weekend revealing that Mosley told team principals he would cancel the Grand Prix if any attempt was made to add a chicane before the final corner. Stoddart added that nine of the ten teams were prepared to stage a non-championship race with that chicane added, without Ferrari if necessary, to ensure the crowd and television viewers were entertained.

Minardi completed the race after Jordan said they would be doing so. Bridgestone also asked Minardi to race. However Stoddart said that he would have pulled his cars out of the race immediately had the Jordans retired.
