Teams ready to boycott races

26 June 2005

Formula One teams could boycott the French Grand Prix and future races if they receive severe penalties from the FIA for their part in the US Grand Prix disaster, Minardi boss Paul Stoddart has warned.

The seven teams supplied by Michelin who all failed to start last week's US Grand Prix will all attend a disciplinary hearing on Wednesday at the World Motor Sport Council in Paris. Stoddart has warned that if the FIA hands out 'draconian bans' then they could elect to boycott other races.

"In the worse possible situation of some kind of draconian penalty, would the other teams race?" Stoddart asked. "I think we'd have a meeting and you wouldn't guarantee it."

Stoddart's own team uses Bridgestone tyres.
