2006 race likely - Indy boss

26 July 2005

He might not be a happy bunny, but Indianapolis' F1 boss Tony George says the Speedway will probably stage a 2006 race. But the American reckons a crowd of around 50,000 - less than half the attendance at the farcical six car grand prix in June - is most likely.

"I don't have a great deal of faith as we sit here today," George told the Indianapolis Star newspaper, "but we have an agreement with Bernie Ecclestone and until we feel compelled to try to change that, it's certainly our preference to have it."

He criticised the entire Formula One community, which pinned the blame for the Indy fiasco on Michelin, for failing to see the 'whole picture'. "They need to stop looking at a microcosm," Tony George commented. "They need to look at this as a problem of 'the F1 community' -- period."
